RUF SCR

In 2018, at the 88th Geneva Motor Show, exactly 40 years after the original SCR was introduced, RUF presented a new version of the SCR, which was built on the same principle as the CTR introduced the year before. The 2018 RUF SCR was introduced in the same green color as the original SCR.

The original RUF SCR debuted in 1978 as a revised version of the classic Porsche 911 SC, increasing the power of the base 3.2-liter engine from 180 hp. up to 217 hp The version immediately impressed the critics of the famous German automobile magazine Auto Motor und Sport, who declared: “Power, wherever you step!” Published in issue No. 13/1978, the test was then warmly received by the automotive community.

RUF's plan was to produce 15 SCRs per year at a starting price of approximately $745,000.

Mechanics

The new car was powered by a 4-litre naturally aspirated, water-cooled 6-cylinder boxer engine, based on the unit found in the Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0, with a power output of 510 hp. and 470 Nm of torque with a redline of 8200 rpm, which is sent to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission.

For the SCR, a sports double-wishbone suspension with horizontal shock absorbers on both axles, similar to that found in Formula 1 cars, was developed. The carbon-ceramic braking system was equipped with 6-piston calipers at the front and 4-piston at the rear. Tires 245/35 R19 at the front and 305/30 R19 at the rear were mounted on light-alloy five-spoke wheels of our own design.

The RUF SCR featured an Integrated Roll Cage (IRC) in a proprietary carbon fiber chassis. A longer wheelbase and new lightweight materials allowed the vehicle to have a curb weight of 1250 kg.

Exterior

The body received a large front spoiler with round ducts for cooling the brakes and a built-in oil cooler. At the rear, a whale-tail spoiler was installed on the engine cover to provide balanced aerodynamics.

Interior

The interior was also made in a retro style and trimmed with brown genuine leather with tartan inserts – no touch screens, virtual instruments or color displays. The bucket seats were made of carbon fiber.
