Porsche Mission R

The Porsche Mission R is a twin-engine, all-wheel-drive coupe designed as a near-future vision of what a near-future, zero-emission electric racing car for customer motorsports could look like, and built with sustainable materials. This, according to the Stuttgart-based company, will be the future of motorsport: high-tech and climate-friendly at the same time.

    Mechanics

The Mission R is equipped with a twin-engine electric power plant, whose total output is 1088 horsepower in the qualifying configuration and 680 hp. in racing configuration, with the front rated at 435 hp and the rear at 653 hp.

Both of the sports car's electric motors, as well as the 82 kilowatt-hour traction battery (developed jointly with BASF), are equipped with an oil-cooled system, thanks to which the power does not decrease even during prolonged peak loads. The concept's battery operates at 900 volts and supports a charge of up to 340 kilowatts (a charge from 5 to 15 percent takes 15 minutes). With a fully charged battery, Mission R can drive around the track for half an hour.

The electric car is based on the Porsche Cayman chassis and suspension from the Porsche 911 RSR. Both electric motors transfer their power to the road through a spur input gearbox. But, unlike the same Taycan, the batteries are located in front of the rear axle. Porsche calls the layout E-Core. Among other things, this arrangement means that the Mission R has similar driving performance to that of a mid-engined racing car.

Up to a hundred all-wheel drive car accelerates in just 2.5 seconds, and its top speed is 300 kph. The developers claim that Mission R laps on various tracks as quickly as the racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup 992.

    Exterior

For the Mission R, the Porsche Active Aerodynamics (PAA) system has been improved, which includes the Drag Reduction System (DRS). It includes three slats in both side air intakes in the front, as well as an adjustable two-piece rear wing.

The body panels, along with the side skirts, diffuser and front spoiler trim, are made from flax fiber reinforced plastic (NFRP). Porsche has already used this biocomposite on the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport. It is ten percent heavier than conventional CFRP, but emits 85 percent less CO₂ during production.

    Interior

The interior of the sports car is also mostly spartan, as befits a racing car. Moreover, the door panels, rear bulkhead and seats are also made of NFRP. There is only one seat in the cockpit, for the pilot, its frame is partially made on a 3D printer. Where the passenger's back is normally located, a helmet holder is installed, which dries and cools the driver's helmet using the air conditioning system.

The instrument panel is divided into two screens – one is integrated into the steering wheel in the form of a butterfly, the second is located above it. Which displays the image from the central camera and side view cameras. The small touch screen on the right is used to display the driver's biometric data.

A set of cameras is installed in the interior of the car so that motorsport fans can immerse themselves in what is happening on the race track and in the cockpit of the car.
