BMW M4 GTS (F82)

    Description

    In 2015, the BMW M4 GTS was presented at the Tokyo Motor Show, which was released in a limited edition of 700 units to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the BMW M3. The pre-production version was presented at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.

    The BMW M4 GTS is the first mass-produced vehicle to feature a water-injection engine that reduces the temperature in the combustion chamber and, as a result, the risk of detonation. A five-liter water tank is installed in the trunk of a sports car, from which distilled water is injected into the intake manifold using three nozzles and mixed with air, thereby cooling it by about 25 degrees. Together with the intercooler, this allows you to reduce the temperature of the forced air from 160 to about 45 degrees. The air becomes denser, which means that more fuel can be supplied to the cylinders with it – and the engine output can be increased.

    The in-line six-cylinder M TwinPower Turbo petrol unit features an increased output of 500 hp. and 600 Nm of torque, while maintaining the fuel efficiency of a conventional M4 Coupe (8.3 l/100 km). Torque is transmitted by a seven-speed preselective M DCT robotic gearbox with Drivelogic shifting program and Launch Control, which allows the car to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds (4.1 seconds on the original M4 Coupé). The maximum speed is forcibly limited by electronics at around 305 kph.

    The wheel arches are fitted with star-spoke forged Style 666 M orange wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 265/35 R19 tires at the front and 285/30 R20 at the rear for solid traction. Standard is M-suspension with the ability to adjust for the track and carbon-ceramic brake discs.

    The body received a carbon-fiber hood (25% lighter than aluminum), a roof, a splitter, a diffuser and an adjustable wing, the muffler was made of titanium (20% lighter than the standard one). The bright rear lights, made using the finest organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs), were used for the first time on a production car.

    The interior received carbon fiber bucket seats for the driver and passenger with Alcantara and Merino leather upholstery with three-point seat belts. The seats weighed about 50 percent less than the sports seats in the BMW M4 Coupe. Alcantara was also used on the M sports steering wheel, whose 12 o'clock position emphasized the racing character of the BMW M4 GTS.

    Instead of a rear seat, the BMW M4 GTS was fitted with a glass fiber reinforced plastic (GFRP) shelf and a carbon fiber rear panel. Both are covered in Alcantara, and together they have reduced the weight by about 40 percent.

    The optional Clubsport package could further enhance the BMW M4 GTS's race car feel. It includes an Acid Orange roll bar behind the front seats, a six-point seat belt and a fire extinguisher.

    The company said that the new model has become the fastest production car in the history of BMW. The car completed the circle on the Nurburgring's Nordschleife in 7 minutes 27.88 seconds (M4 version – in 7 minutes 52 seconds).
