Audi Sport Quattro RS002 Group S Prototype

The Audi Sport Quattro RS002 Group S Prototype is a mid-engined all-wheel drive coupe, which was prepared according to the rules of the Group S rally, the first race of which was to be held in 1987. However, due to the fact that in 1986 group B, the predecessor of the new category, was banned due to numerous accidents, the German company had to curtail development.

The prototype featured an aerodynamic design, and the 2.1-litre turbocharged aluminum inline-5 engine with air-to-air intercooler and multi-port electronic fuel injection was capable of up to 700 horsepower. The car weighed only 1000 kg and could reach a top speed of 300 kph.

The only prototype is in the Audi Museum Mobile in Ingolstadt. The remaining copies were destroyed at the request of Ferdinand Piech. It was released according to information from various sources from two to several copies.

In 2016, after 29 years in the museum, the Audi Sport Quattro RS002 appeared at the Eifel Rallye Festival 2016, driven by Walter Röhrl. The car also appeared at the 2017 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
