Koenigsegg Gemera Prototype
Description
In 2014, Koenigsegg introduced the concept of "megacar", that is, a car with a capacity of over 1 MW (1361 hp). Six years later, Christian von Koenigsegg developed the first four-seater megacar, which became the ancestor of a new market segment – the Mega-GT. This is the Koenigsegg Gemera on display at the "virtual" Geneva Motor Show 2020.
The name of the prototype comes from a combination of two Swedish words, in particular ge, which means "to give", and mera, "more". Thus the name literally means "to give more" to the Koenigsegg customer. More space, more luggage space, more fun with more friends. The car produces a total of 1.27 MW of power, or 1,700 hp, and 3,500 Nm of torque.
Instead of a traditional petrol V8, it uses a unique 2.0-liter Tiny Friendly Giant (TFG) inline-3 engine weighing only 70 kg, capable of running on Gen 2.0 environmentally friendly ethanol, Vulcanol methanol, E85 ethanol or, in the worst case, regular gasoline. The engine is equipped with a Freevalve individual valve actuation system that eliminates camshafts, as well as two in-line turbos, an intake manifold warm-up system before starting at low temperatures and a dry sump lubrication system. By itself, the TFG develops 600 hp. and 600 N∙m, while its average fuel consumption is 7.1 l/100 km. However, the internal combustion engine plays only a supporting role, connecting during acceleration and to charge the battery.
On either side of the TFG engine on the rear axle are two 500 hp electric motors. and 1000 N∙m each, and one more with a capacity of 400 hp. docked with the internal combustion engine and transmits up to 500 Nm of torque to the front axle through the proprietary Koenigsegg Direct Drive transmission with a HydraCoup torque converter. Total electric power is capped at 1,115 hp, as a 16.6 kWh battery hidden under the front seats produces only 900 kW at a time. The power reserve without recharging is 50 km. Driveability, agility and safety are provided by all-wheel drive with traction vectoring, rear wheel steering, stability control, traction control, ABS, carbon-ceramic brakes and double wishbone suspension with adjustable dampers. The internal structure of the car consists of a strong carbon fiber monocoque and aluminum subframes.
The carbon body of the Koenigsegg Gemera was designed by designer Sasha Selipanov. He did not overload the car with aerodynamic elements, limiting himself to a barely noticeable integrated rear spoiler and a front splitter and a rear diffuser split in two. The front part is made in the spirit of the Koenigsegg CC prototype, the cabin is traditionally surrounded by a panoramic windshield and a glazed roof in the center, titanium exhaust pipes are brought directly from the engine compartment cover, and the patented Synchrohelix doors rotate vertically, opening up free access to both the front and rear seats. . The total volume of the front and rear trunks is 200 liters. The package includes six airbags, rear-view cameras instead of side mirrors, 8 cup holders for heating and cooling drinks, huge touch displays for front and rear passengers, a duplicated smartphone charging system, Apple CarPlay, a Wi-Fi hotspot, an audio system with 11 speakers, 4 reading lights, power all seats, three zone climate control and ADAS 2.5 partial autopilot.
The planned circulation is only 300 cars at a price of more than 1.5 million euros.
