    The famous Japanese collector Yoshiyuki Hayashi, who owns such rare Ferrari models as the 166MM, 250 Spider California, Daytona spyder and coupe, and Ferrari Enzo, ordered Zagato to decorate his Ferrari 575 Maranello in the style of the beautiful 1956 Ferrari 250 GTZ. Work on the so-called “Project Zero” began in 2005. The project was personally “blessed” by Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, then-president of Ferrari. Zagato was allowed to display Ferrari badges and logos on the car. One of the conditions was that the Zagato Ferrari would not be exhibited at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show, where Ferrari was scheduled to unveil the 575M's replacement, the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano. According to the agreement, the Ferrari 575 GTZ was presented two months later at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este.

    The technical content remains the same: a 515-horsepower V12 5.7 engine, a manual transmission or “robot” and adaptive telescopic shock absorbers. The 575 GTZ accelerated from zero to one hundred in 4.2 seconds. The maximum speed was 325 kilometers per hour.

    Like its ancestor, the 575 GTZ features a hand-crafted aluminum body, Zagato's signature "double bubble" roof, prominent front and rear fenders and a large grille. More modern touches included front and rear lights integrated into the fenders. Like the original 250 GT Zagato, the car had a two-tone paint job.

    The interior was completely re-upholstered, with quilted leather used for the central tunnel, rear section and trunk.

    A total of five examples were planned to be produced, just like the Ferrari 250 GTZ, but six units were produced because a Japanese collector requested two of them. According to rumors: one for driving in Japan, and the other for Europe. The remaining copies were distributed to private collections. The approximate cost of the refurbishment was 1.5 million US dollars.
